The Elks in Our Rochester Community

Our lodge is dedicated to active involvement in our Rochester Community in a number of different ways:
 

College Scholarships nationwide the Elks award college scholarships of varying amounts via the Most Valuable Students (MVS) program and the Elks Legacy program.

In 2004 the MVS program awarded over $2.2 million to the finalists and the Legacy program $413 thousand.
   
Gold Key Scholarships 4 year / $2,000 per year scholarships awarded to "special needs" high school seniors - who could not otherwise continue their education past high school.  Education options include accredited college/universities or licensed trade and vocational schools.

Helping Handicapped Kids in Michigan the Elks Major Project is helping handicapped children.   Penny Banks Benefiting Handicapped Children
   
Pumpkin Patch for special needs children/adults - this event is a safe trick-or-treat time, held indoors in a miniature Rochester village with "houses" to visit, treats, hotdogs/chips/pop clowns, firemen and/or policemen, Smokey the Bear and music. Held yearly in October.
   
Veterans Hospital donations of clothes, toiletries, books and other items to veterans at the Detroit VA Hospital. 
   
Sweater/Clothes Drive benefiting the Salvation Army and other local charities
   
Teddy Bear Drive our annual drive to raise teddy bears and stuffed animals for Crittenton Hospital's pediatric ward and ER -- as well as the Rainbow Connection. Thousands of little smiles makers have been donated over the past 5 year.
   
Basketball Hoop Shoot a national free throw shooting competition held each year for boys and girls ages 8 - 13.  2004/2005 is the 33rd year. (National winners in each age bracket are enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame)
   
Easter Egg Hunt an opportunity to find some eggs, eat lots of candy, munch hotdogs & chips, hang out with the Easter Bunny and win some neat prizes.
   
Teen of the Month monthly recognition of exceptional High School seniors from seven area schools - culminating in an awards banquet for the recipients and their families in April/May.

Christmas Parade / Party march in the Rochester parade and come back to the lodge for some hot cocoa and a visit with Santa
   
Flag Day Ceremony honoring our country, our flag and the men and women that have served this country so bravely.  All lodges nationwide have been observing Flag Day since 1911.
   
CPR Classes working in conjunction with the Rochester Fire Dept to provide periodic CPR classes.
   
Americanism Essay
Contest
annual national essay contest for 5th-8th graders.  Theme changes each year.  National winners receive U.S. Savings Bonds.
   
Community Service Recognition Night this is our opportunity to recognize people in the Greater Rochester Area that make a difference in our Community - Ordinary People that Do Extraordinary Things!
   
Other Activities Food Pantry Collections, Holiday Giving Tree, Old Cell Phone Donations, Assist the Good Fellows Paper Drive, Teen Drug Awareness Programs, Meals on Wheels
